This historic church renovation is located in Old Town Alexandria. The 1814 sanctuary design by renowned architect Benjamin Latrobe is flanked by two 1955 support structures. This renovation provides a renewed sense of connection to all parts of the different buildings, makes them accessible and updates building and life safety systems. A new stair and elevator are installed in an existing 8-foot wide gap with the design articulated as a dark “hyphen” between the red brick Wilmer Hall and yellow brick Damascus House. The existing wide light well becomes a sky-lit accessible ramp.
